Week 38 - WTA ($500K) - Seoul, Korea - Hard

Finally got up to watch a stream, in time to see Hev about to break, hopefully, and stay in 2nd set !

Unfortunately, she didn't manage it despite many break point opps.  3* - 6

Looking a bit scrappy from both.

3rd set

HW: missed 0-15 df 0-30 very poor HW fs ue well wide 0-40 agg KDK ret gives her control HW goes long (broken-0) 0-1*

Heather really needed that as she seemed to be in a slump. Kimiko rather careless in that game.

HW: KDK agg f 0-15 df 0-30 KDK poor f ue net 15-30 terrible HW b ue long when in total control 15-40 HW poor bh ue long (broken-15) 1-2*

Far too many poor shots from Heather right now

KDK: unr 15-0 HW bh ue long 30-0 HW pulls agg fh wide 40-0 HW good agg play forces error 40-15 HW f ue long (w-15) *1-3

Heather still in the match

Heather rather panicked on that last shot after the df but otherwise her level has been much higher these last three games

KDK: KDK agg f cc then winner into open space 15-0 unr 30-0 HW bh long under pressure 40-0 df 40-15 HW agg bh just wide (w-15) *3-5

KDK: HW bh pass winner after short ret 0-15 KDK pass net 0-30 unr 15-30 HW careless bh ue wide 30-30 unr 40-30 KDK woeful fh ue net 40-40 KDK bh ue wide after nervous rally 40-A under arm serve from KDK as her leg is cramping HW volley into net 40-40 HW deep bh 40-A super play from KDK eventually f winner into open space 40-40 KDK fs net 40-A KDK agg f dtl that HW can't control 40-40 HW poor bh ue wide after nervous rally A- HW in control of rally but puts f dtl wide (w-40) 4-6

Incredible final game with Kimiko's left leg cramping, resulting in her serving under-arm on one point. Heather went very passive towards the end yet managed to push a couple of groundstrokes wide at the end of lengthy rallies in which she had done little more than keep the ball in play. Overall Heather played some good tennis in patches but seemed short on confidence when the match got tight. I was surprised by the number of unreturned KDK serves, though quite a few were well directed, especially when saving bps serving for the 2nd set. Kimiko's net play was nowhere near her usual standard but she returned well and scored heavily with deep groundstrokes.

Stands look pretty empty though can hear quite alot of support for KDK so there must be some folk somewhere. Just heard one supporter for our Hev, and it worked, she broke back

Only to get broken again herself

She's hanging in though. Holds her next serve 2 - 3*.

Hev now broken in a game you felt was crucial

Can she prove us wrong?

Thanks.  I just watched the 2nd half.  It was worth it to see Kimoko serve underarm !! I actually have never seen that before.  It surprised Hev too and she returned into the net. The match could have been hers as K was cramping  in the last few games, but Hev just didn't manage to stay calm enough to see it through it seemed to me.

What a shame. Good luck to Hev for whatever's next on her schedule!
