This must be quite a match to watch - following the scores, it looks like the fight shown by both players has been amazing ... Bedene has a double mini-break though 1-4*

It says it all about how far Kyle has come this year that we will feel a little disappointed that he lost to Bedene, who is a genuine top 100 player.
Yes, very true. A real pity, not least because Mesaros in the QFs would have been very winnable, but given the pressure his serve was under, Kyle must have fought so hard to get as close as he did. The 2nd top 100 scalp, 1st Challenger QF and top 300 place that were at stake today shouldn't have to wait too long if he continues like this!
L16: Kyle Edmund WR 315 lost to (3) Aljaz Bedene (SLO) WR 86 (CH 71 in Feb) by 3-6 6-3 7-6(1)

Real shame but Bedene isn't WR 86 in the world for nothing and Kyle ran him MIGHTY close. Well done to him . . .
Quite right. Bedene beat Wawrinka earlier this year, and he's not a bad player! Plenty of experiences (good and bad, no doubt) banked in the memory to analyse and learn from for the future. Kyle could so easily have won that match, but arguably he was hanging on in so many of his service games (great fighting spirit, BTW!) that Bedene would probably have considered himself unlucky not to win 9 times out of 10.
First serve seemed to be working well, but Kyle's second serve appeared to be under the cosh throughout - something to work on.
MTOs probably had a material impact on the second set (which once again reinforces why players keep taking them at critical moments, since there is no penalty for doing so), but not the third, so Bedene picked up his game just when he needed to. Credit to him!
The fact that Kyle is taking these guys so close, despite still having so much to work on with his game is exciting for us, his team and hopefully Mr Edmund himself.
Another decent showing from Kyle, baby steps, as opposed to big number 12's, is I think better in the long run. Bedene may have not played particularly well but Kyle looks to be playing near to a top 250 level which is fine by me, no rush.
