Week 38 - Challenger (€64,000) - Izmir, Turkey (Hard)

After meeting in QR2 in Istanbul last weekend ...

QR1: (q4) Dave Rice WR 398 v Sean Thornley WR 1389

H2H 7-3 including a 2 & 0 win for Dave a week ago. Only 2 qualifying rounds here, so hopefully the winner won't find it too hard to make the main draw.

Sean sees the funny side:

"Pressures all on my opponent after last week eh ;) @GBtennis @daverice2k7"

To be honest they are going to meet quite regularly in challenger qualifying until Dave gets a main draw ranking as Dave will almost certainly be seeded week on week and Sean will not

True, but each time there's only a 1 in 4 chance of them being in the same section of the draw and only a 1 in 8 chance of them meeting before the FQR. So twice in a row isn't an amazing coincidence but still pretty unfortunate. I was going to say "possibly not for Dave" but this 1st set is a bit too close for comfort! 5-5

FQR: (q4) Dave Rice WR 398 v (q5) Sherif Sabry (EGY) WR 466 (CH 383 in 2010)

A chance for Dave to avenge a 3-set defeat in Cairo back in 2009, their only previous meeting.

L32: Brydan Klein WR 331 v Dane Propoggia (AUS) WR 349

Brydan has a 4-2 H2H against his regular doubles partner but that splits 4-0 to Brydan in 2010/11 and 2-0 to Dane last year.

L32: (Q) Dave Rice WR 398 v Tennys Sandgren (USA) WR 230 (CH 209 in Apr)

Edit:   couldn't resist adding the missing "s" to the end of Mr Sandgren's first name, Steven! wink

He's made a reasonable start:  *3-2 in the first.
