Wonder why Dom doesn't play week in week out with Treat in doubles?

Treat played Davis Cup doubles yesterday (and won), and with the team to play the reverse singles today maybe its too little preparation to get to St Petersburg after?

Of course.

Dom 3-0 up. I would love to see more of the doubles specialists play more singles. Dom seems more than capable of stepping up if he so desired.

Dom cruises through the first set 6-1 mainly thanks to his opponents erratic serving

Dom wins 6-1 6-2 makes the final qualifier and picks up 6pts for his troubles. His next match may be a bit more difficult...

Obviously Treat didn't want to play a Davis Cup tie in the Philippines, fly all the way to Europe for one event, and then fly back for the Asian swing.

... especially now that he's 2 sets to 1 up but a break down against Michael Venus in the 5th rubber of the tie against New Zealand well past 1 am local time! (according to something DC twitter just RTd)

1.30 am, 5th rubber, final set - what a Treat for the fans in the Philippines!

(I'd call it the Thriller in Manila, part 2 ... but sadly it's being played in Lapu-Lapu City!)

And the "Treat" bit doesn't work, either:  when I saw Dom being interviewed by John Inverdale during ITV's coverage of Roland-Garros for the first time last year, he pronounced it "tret". wink

1.50 am in the Philippines and sadly for Treat , it's Venus (yes, he's got it ...) - the ex-Aussie Kiwi beat Treat from 2 sets down to end a final day of play that lasted nearly 10 hours

It did, because as in the Philippines it started at 4 pm, but I don't think it went past about 10.30 pm.

That's one cross Russian. 7-6 (9-7) to Dom.
