Whichever way this match goes now, the stats suggest Laura certainly played a very good second set of tennis after her "blip" when she was 0-2 down. More competitive games and more BPs created on the Jie Zheng serve. No further BPs offered, with excellent serving stats on her own serve.....and all this when serving second. Clearly Jie Zheng served much better in set 2, but still the balance would slightly favour Laura.
I hope Laura wins, but either way it seems she's played very well today. If she can sneak through, either by coming out firing and sneak the TB, or in a third set.....well the remainder of the draw looks VERY tempting. None of the players left is as good as Zheng.
Not the best timing for just Laura's second DF of the match. I was going to say could be exceptionally good timing by the rain, though maybe that was a contributer to the DF, not that Laura often needs much contribution in that regard.
I'm quite encouraged by today, obviously especially that first set. Would be great if she can go on to get the win, especially with how the draw is panning out.
Agonising for Laura, as Indy says you can just imagine at 5-5 with the rain probably starting to fall, the DF resulted.
The forecast was a 40% chance of thunderstorms later on tonight, so they've come early, still though its only 8.30 local time, so plenty of time left to get a resumption.
Won't be easy for Zheng to come out to serve cold, it also looks as if Laura is the better player overall, so I'm still hopeful of a win.
Poor JoKo jinxed by me putting a little bit of cash on her, but seriously still a great tournament, and I like the fact she's playing a challenger next week. Should be guaranteed points.
