Week 37 - ITF ($10K) - Mytilini, Greece - Hard

Just 22 players here, so 10 R1 byes in the main draw! no

L16: (7) Laura Deigman WR 873 v Angeliki Kairi (GRE) WR 1133 (CH 1090 in May)

If they don't get the point for reaching R2 if they go out in R2 having not played in R1, having a bye could be a disadvantage, but I'll check that out if it turns out to be relevant. Hopefully Laura will win this match and get 4 QF points and won't have to worry about it.

In fact, given an entry list this weak, Laura has got about as bad a draw as she could possibly have got - the 2nd highest-ranked unseeded player potentially followed by the top seed in the QFs.

If you lose r1 after a bye you get 1st round points, so zero here.

As already mentioned, TEN byes into the second round.

AND THEN, to add to that, two of the first round matches were walkovers, one was 6-0 6-0 (and one had a reasonable 6-4 6-3 score).

Lord, give me strength . . .

She held from *3-5 in the 2nd, at least, and got to 15-30 on the Greek's serve, but:

L16: (7) Laura Deigman WR 956 lost to Angeliki Kairi (GRE) WR 1136 (CH 1090 in May) by 7-6(5) 6-4 bleh

A horrible loss under the circumstances, especially on the back of an 83-place ranking drop on Monday Kind of unfortunate to get the draw she did given the alternatives, but it was still an unusually good opportunity to get 4 points.

Which Laura loses 7-5.

Maybe these 'easy' points are proving a touch tricky . . .

Hmm, as Steven indicated, given the entry list, getting any points at all is not going to be as "easy" as it certainly could have been.

C'mon, Laura.

Unfortunately, Laura lost her doubles final (a truly memorable doubles table - only three matches in the whole thing!)

Final

Ashley MURDOCK (USA) / Eva RASZKIEWICZ (USA) [2] def. Laura DEIGMAN (GBR) / Lisa SABINO (SUI) [1] 1-6 6-2 [10-7]
