What a brilliant, fascinating game tennis is. Ed Corrie, who was consistency personified throughout the early GB Futures (winning 3, making QF or better in all of them), and who stormed up the rankings, lost tamely last week and is being given a stern test today by Marcus Gan: already Ed's saved 4 BP. I presume he'll ultimately prevail, but it's clear that the things he was doing so well back in January and February are simply not working right now.
Update: or maybe he just got out of bed on the wrong side this morning - from 2-2, 4 games won in a row for a 6-2 first set to Ed. How could I doubt you?

I take your point about WCs, Shhh, and it would be much worse in such a case - those handing out the WCs wouldn't see the funny side if he kept pulling out (obviously no serious injury is ever "funny", but you know what I mean).
Of course it's Richard's right to enter the MD with his ranking, same as Jamie Baker, Josh Goodall or even Tom Burn all of whom have retired, I believe. It's not his right to compete in general that I'm questioning (his ranking is where it is), more the decision to enter a competition when injured. In this case Richard was already clearly injured in the SF at Sheffield over the weekend (it's on the video), and demonstrably couldn't compete properly, so is it professional (or even fair to others) to turn up this week and pull out injured after 5 games. Surely he must have known beforehand that it was touch and go whether he could have lasted through an entire match, let alone a tournament.
Just my view, of course, but if I'd been first alt and therefore forced to play qualies for 2 days because he hadn't pulled out, I'd not have seen the funny side.

The fact Richard was 4-1 up suggests something got unexpectedly worse (or something new went wrong), so he might well have thought he could get through the tournament, or at least a match or two.
I mean, it's not like slams where you can turn up, pull out after a few games and get paid £20,000. Richard had nothing to gain (except perhaps the avoidance of a fine, in which case it's the ITF's fault for not being more flexible) by playing here if he didn't feel capable of winning matches.
Of course, the 1st Alt might feel a bit frustrated about it in much the same way as we raise our eyes when a player beats a Brit then retires in the next round, but we don't actually blame the unfortunate injured player for that.
Anyway, any player who can't get through a qualifying competition as weak as the one here doesn't deserve to be a Futures main draw. I would get far more frustrated if a 'ringer' entered qualifying with a late QWC because they hadn't bothered to enter originally and I ended up in their section - now that's really unfair.

On another note, Rob C has already won more games in today's R1 match against Liam than he did in last weeks final, it's currently 5-4* to Rob in the first set.

Well duh, any man in the top 1,000 would fancy their chances against her. You'd probably have to go down to Futures qualifying before she had any chance of taking a set off anyone

She's an awful individual, never softened towards her since her on court death threats to a line judge. Despicable

Marzi, Scott Clayton(break down second set) and Ed Corrie all a set up.
Alex Jhun has just broken back to get to 4-4 against the last remaining foreigner. Can he pull off the upset and guarantee full points for GB players for the first time ever.
