RE: Week 37 - Great Britain F19 ($10,000) - Roehampton (Hard)

Josh G breaks Ed to go 4-2 up

Not surprised if they are playing indoors with Lewis and Marcus having to get a flight to the middle east and Dan possibly out to Turkey(now 4th alt)

Goodall takes the first set 6-2, Marcus 5-2 up in his match

PS Josh tweeted to say he will still be playing on ITF tour as and when his coaching permits

Marcus just about took the first set 6-4, but is a break down second set.

3-3 in other semi final second set.

I'm assuming they're playing on the carpet inside ???

It's pretty wet my side of London (and not forecast to get much better) so, unlike yesterday, they obviously haven't waited.

Of course, a few miles can make a big difference so maybe it's better over there.

But, if it's carpet, you'd think that'd help Dan Cox and Ed Corrie (I'm assuming the carpet is slower ? But I only saw it, not anyone playing on it, and there are different sorts so not much the wiser . . . )

And yet Marcus has just broken again. 3*-0

Isn't carpet usually one of the fastest of the surfaces, if not THE fastest. Looking at today's matches, it's an ace fest and Mr Goodall seems very competitive, so everything about it smells like a fast surface to me. Anyone know what type of carpet they have?

You may well be right, Korri. Hence, my wonderings . . .

I've never seen actual carpet in France and the only 'sort of carpet' I've ever played on/seen is one that has sand embedded in the fibres. But I don;t think this was the same (as I said I only saw it from afar).

As you say, does anyone know ? NB the second sets in both matches seem very close.

PS several players didn't like the outdoor courts, claiming they were dangerous (even though perfectly dry). Someone said the foot slipped, someone said the foot stuck (contradictory????) and then someone else said that actually the foot slips and then sticks, hence jarring it. Only mentioning it because if Liam turned his ankle, and Jonny did (and Alex Jhun seemed to be having problems - although he does wear ankle braces so maybe it's a weakenss) then they may have a point and thank goodness they're now playing inside.

right - I really AM booking my specsavers appointment now !

I was so far away but they didn't look like hard courts at all. Maybe I was at a cricket match. Maybe it wasn't even London. Maybe I'm just going mad . . . .

I have played there a couple of times. They have indoor hard courts and I din't find them particularly fast, I actually thought they were a bit 'bouncy' for indoor courts. It is definitely not carpet in the David Lloyd kind of sense.
Just my opinion obviously. Also the mere fact of being indoors without wind might account for some aces.

Dan won second set 6-3, so both matches into final sets

Dan C serving for the match (and thanks bartman2099 for 'informed' as opposed to 'blind as a bat' comment!)

Dan Cox still entered for Challenger in Turkey, but doesn't look like making the main draw. I assume he will not get an SE

I assume he will make a decision after tomorrow's match.

I'd expect him to withdraw anyway as he has played a lot recently.

Would like to see Ed v Marcus final

I guess we don't always get what we wish for  . . .. cry  (re last comment).

But, on the happy side, (smile) maybe, just maybe, Josh G's victory - and Richard doing well at the moment in Turkey - is just one step away from making Bob in Spain's second dearest wish come true ! (I assume he's a bit pre-occupied today and not thinking too much about his '20 in 500' goal)
