He won! Wow, what a result! It shows that it does pay off to take a shot at Challengers and soak in the level of play.

Nice win from Alex, although I assume his application to join the WTA is currently in the post.

Just the 6 MPs saved, but who cares 7th MP got the job done. Alex looked very nervous, but that's hardly surprising and the more he gets himself in these positions, the easier it will get.

Absolutely thrilled for him. Decent points, decent money, excellent (Career Best?) scalp and starting to play well at this level. He needs a few QF and SF tournaments to feel he really belongs, rack up the points, secure more MD starts and see his confidence soar. Fantastic matchplay though, even if the Russian probably wasn't at his best.

QF:  Alex Ward WR 346 vs (6) Renzo Olivo (ARG) WR 201

If Alex can see off the world n° 83, surely Larry Olive Tree from Argentina should present no problems... wink

2nd best, but the first time he has had to win a match point against a top 100 player because his best scalp, Lu, retired after the 1st set at Le Gosier 18 months ago.

Great result, well done, Alex.

I do hope he keeps well on top of his fitness and he is clearly in much better condition than Marcus. I mean the way he is progressing...just why wouldn't you ??
