No break points in the 1st set ... until the crunch game, Alex serving to stay in the set, goes 0-40 down. Kuznetsov (a typical case of a top 100 player turning up the heat when it matters?) takes the 2nd bp and with it the 1st set.
Alex does look like he belongs out there though.

What I like about Alex is that he seems to belong at this level, and furthermore there is a decent crowd enjoying this match (from the applause) which must make it all worthwhile.
What I'm a little bit irritated about is his "selective" grunting. In some rallies he sounds like Ferrer/Nadal or equivalent with the noise continuing a long time after the ball is struck. In other rallies there is nothing. Absolutely nothing. How does that work? Again it's not illegal, but if you switch it on and off, you must be doing this for a reason.......and I know Andy has an issue with opponents who are selective...........
Alex just got to 0-30 on Kuznetsov's serve but the Russian won the next 3 points. Kuznetsov hasn't got many 1st serves in during this game though and after deuce - ad-in - deuce, Alex finally has a break point ... and takes it!
4-6 *3-2

Great to see Alex holding his own against such a good player (his blog says that he played better and better as the match went on yesterday so you never know).
Don't know too much about his physical shape, Korri, but I'm A1 sure he's not in the Marcus category !
NB If an army marches on it's stomach, then British tennis has no chance, given the standards of the NTC restaurant. Absolutely dreadful. Someone should tell them that 'healthy' eating does not mean 'dried-up and uninspired' eating. Adding an artificially reddened, ethylene tomato does not make something healthy. A humongous baked potato, whether stuffed with cheese and coleslaw, as most were, or not, is not healthy eating. There'd be a mutiny if that were the canteen at a tennis centre in Europe.
And as I write Alex seems to have broken ! Maybe his blog will come true again . . . vamos . . .
