Thoroughly enjoyable match, but Olivo just had too much in terms of fitness and know how at the end. I think the third consecutive long 3 setter took it out of Alex at the end.

However if Alex continues to play at that standard, he will be 200-250 in no time

Didn't realise the Hof was with Alex this week:

@JulienHoferlin: "After 3 hours match , in the gym Olivo and Ward on the bike ......the umpire on the running machine ! Everyone looks tired #Effort #strong"

From what I saw, neither player deserved to lose. Superb entertainment for the crords too. Bad luck Alex, but a very good performance in those 3 matches and if you continue to play like this, a breakthrough is just around the corner. What I thought was excellent throughout was Alex' aggression and positivity, both on clutch points, but also throughout the early points in games. I also thought he was hitting with real power: perhaps what looked like a little extra poundage was more to do with muscle from the gym.

Fantastic to see, and I look forward to him cracking the top 250 by season's end. Surely one good Challenger run, or an ATP qualification and a MD win will see him make it, so long as he keeps picking up points throughout.

Really good to see how well Alex is playing.

However, a note of caution re his end of year ranking. He has a lot of points to defend from the end of last year, 57 of his new total of 133 counting points. So I would say that he will do really well to end top 300, let alone top 250.

Including this week he has amassed 78 points ( 76 current counters ) from 14 counts this year so far.

The current WR 300 has 142 points, i.e. 64 more points.

The current WR 250 has 186 points, i.e. 108 more points.

Top 250 at least will surely be an aim for nexy year, but I will be very surprised ( and delighted ! ) if it happens this year.

Yes, Indy. Probably 250 too much of a stretch, given so many points to defend. I can't see him going on another Asian Futures tour in Nov/Dec again just to target easier late season points.
