I do think it will generally be important to establish a very decent ranking points base, as Dan Cox has now and Ed earlier in the year, before trying any sustained run at challengers.

Exceptions can be players who clearly have the ability to rise to that level, as Evo generally always has had, or exceptional younger players.

I was also though slghtly wonder if the AEGON funding very rankings based matrix targets might influence some players to keep trying to rack up "easier" points.

Kyle *2-0. Gombos has a very big serve, but his movement is awful.....as the rallies lengthen he looks vulnerable.

3 big serves from Gombos 40-0; then Kyle gets into 5 rallies, 5 points in a row!!

Kyle *4-0. This guy basically just wellies it.

Broken back to love now! 4-4. It was a stinker from Kyle. Just forget it and move on!

An easy break to Kyle. *5-4 and serving for the match. The difference in talent and skill between the 2 is very marked. Just shows what is possible with a big serve.

Oli has just tweeted - Back in the game #freshstart - That was all it says. Very cryptic, but I wonder if he has a LL spot.
