I think Lajovic hit the ball a little harder than the Greek yesterday, and it appeared Oli was on the back foot in most rallies, except where he had the advantage from a big first serve. Both men made mistakes off the ground, but it was clear that Lajovic simply had too much time on the ball to set up for forcing shots or winners, particularly a rather elegant looking backhand DTL. Oli wasn't just patting it back by any means, but he had insufficient on his shots to force Lajovic back or produce many short/weak balls to attack.......so when Oli attacked, more often than not it was off a deeper harder ball, resulting in errors. 2 breaks in each set. Lajovic looked like a solid top 100-200 player.
Oli: "Never really got into the match today, so he was relaxed and played very well! Disappointing but onto next week #bosniahereicome"
Today's result wasn't hugely surprising given that Lajovic has already won a Challenger title on clay this summer. Grinding out that R1 win yesterday definitely makes this week a step forward for Oli.

It is fair to say that Melzer's first serve was key. He won 24 from 26 points on his first serve but only 1 from 12 on his second serve.
I looked a game earlier and it was even more extreme - 21/22 when he got his 1st serve in, 0/11 when he didn't. He has since won 5/5 points on 2nd serve and continued to be just as lethal on 1st, whereas Wardy seems to be having an absolute nightmare.

I know James doesn't always look too energetic, and he is rarely very vocal, but he seemed to just sleepwalk through that match looking hangdog and uninterested. That wasn't Jurgen Melzer he was playing, just in case we think they had been switched before the match......Gerald has only recently made into the top 300 and is the Austrian number 4 or 5!
Yesterday's tennis was poor, but his fight was excellent. Today neither was in evidence.
Dan. Get out on the clay. Immediately! And make sure Kyle stays in Umag, just in case Andy can't play.
OK. So I am on the ATP Livescores site looking at the schedule for today and Kyle's match in NOT there. I thought he was due on after Wardy. The other 7 singles matches are all listed.

He was supposed to be (and not before midday our time anyway). Odd

He definitely was supposed to be 3rd on Court 3. Either one of them has withdrawn (though the live draw hadn't been updated to that effect the last time I looked) or they have been moved to centre and the app hasn't caught up yet.
