RE: Week 36 - Turkey F35 ($10,000) - Antalya-Belconti (Hard)

Scott got broken early in the 3rd but has just broken back!

*2-2

Ilhan is on a 26-match winning streak in Turkish Futures though and averages about one wobble per week in them.

In the end, Scott couldn't stop Ilhan from winning his 27th Turkish Futures match in a row, but the GB no. 70 didn't half give the Turkish no. 1 a fright (also, the fact Ilhan won suggests he probably wasn't injured, which makes it even more impressive for a player ranked 1909 places below him to push him so close)

L16: (Q) Scott Clayton WR 2089 lost to (1) Marsel Ilhan (TUR) WR 180 (CH 87 in 2011) by 6-2 5-7 6-3
L16: (6) Richard Gabb WR 549 beat Alon Elia (ISR) WR 1469 (CH 1310 in Jan) by 1 & 0

QF: (6) Richard Gabb WR 549 v (3/WC) Jules Marie (FRA) WR 258 (= CH)

H2H 0-1, 3 sets, Cardiff Fut. 2010

So...

SC, as she consistently does, has kept us updated about the doubles results.

I am sure I am one of many, who maybe don't take a huge interest in doubles, that still do read and note SC's posts and are very appreciative of the time she gives with them. Indeed some info filters in and I am thus much more aware of the doubles scene than I would otherwise have been.

Thanks, John, for the opening. I had just been thinking the other day that maybe we appear to take SC's doubles service for granted. I, and I am sure others, certainly do not.

Thanks, SC.

You're welcome indiana. Just a lighthearted dig really, nothing malicious :)

A win tomorrow would do it, but it's likely to be Ilhan he faces (his QF has just started)

I think that may be Richard's 2nd best ranking scalp too - his best was Josh Goodall when Josh was WR 252 (Marie is WR 258)

I wouldn't worry John, Indiana is an expert at the lighthearted jape himself.

In one gag he was even seen bizarrely defending notorious rogue and serial cheat Rafael Nadal. Until I realised he was joking I couldn't believe my eyes.

6-3

Richard dropped just 4 points on serve and won 4x as many as that on the Frenchman's serve, going 1/6 on bps (so the scoreline could have been even more one-sided)

Jules Marie, ranked in the mid 200s, has had an alarming dip in form of late - certainly compared to late last year and early this year. I imagine he will have tons of points dropping off very soon and his ranking may crash. He was one of the guys that used to mop up points in GB Futures. Nonetheless it's a terrific scalp for Richard, and the manner of victory seems even more impressive. Great stuff! biggrin

He may break into top 500 as Josh G drops out, although Josh G is down to play at roehampton. Broady is in the form to break into the top 500 sooner rather than later.
