RE: Weeks 35 and 36 - US Open Men's Doubles

Magnificent. 4 Brits in the doubles QFs, double the next best representation ( 2 from each of USA and Brazil ).

Nadal's at 1-1, so I'm going to sleep. Night all, hope we wake to good news

Fleming/Marray are into a tiebreak in the first set after a pretty mammoth hold serving to stay in it.

I'm marginally impressed the bbc live commentary has started to cover this match, I hope it continues given I have no chance of watching even a stream but no doubt it will disappear on match point or something equally frustrating...sorry my natural cynicism showing through there!

Colin & Jonny had 2 set points.

The first, on the Bryans' serve, produced a 20+ shot rally with an incredible series of reflex volleys from Colin but the Bryans finally won the point and celebrated with a huge chest bump.

The second, on Colin's serve, was double-faulted away and the Bryans then served out the tiebreak 9-7

Lovely to 'see' you here, btw - are you back in the UK or yet to leave?

I'm in NZ now, hence the awake during this match and lack of streaming ability

Ah! It suddenly dawned on me that might be it after I asked (it's late here, I'm even slower than usual LOL)

Ah excuses excuses! I thought it had been agreed on here that you clearly don't need sleep like th rest o us and therefore th time o day should have no effect on you

Unfortunately the Bryan's have just broken Colin and Jonny and are serving at 4-3, I don't think anyone wearing that color yellow should be allowed to win a tennis match but it looks like they disagree with me :(

Fleming and Marray lose 67(79) 46

Still, by all accounts it was a great match and one they should be proud of. I really cannot see anyone stopping the Bryans from taking this trophy to make the set this year though.

Btw, I'm virtually certain (*) that this is the first time for 40 years that 4 Brits have made the men's doubles QFs at the same slam!

In 1973 (the year of the boycott), there was an all-GB QF in which David Lloyd & John Paish beat Peter Curtis & Roger Taylor. The best I have found between then and now is when Jeremy Bates & non-GB partner and Paul Hand & Chris Wilkinson made the Wimbledon QFs in 1993.

(*) having checked the Wimbledon and AO archives (there aren't any for RG and the USO yet as far as I can see) and having checked the slam doubles records on ITF for all decent GB singles and doubles players I can think of from the last few decades.

Colin and Jonny have had a great tournament - and the match last night sounds as though it was close, so well done guys!

Glad to see that Dom and Treat won - excellent!

Sounds like a great match. It is a pity for Colin and Jonny but there is a part of me that would love to see the Bryan Bros complete the slam this year. I just think they are great for tennis in general and it would be a fitting tribute to immense careers.

No of course not ! But is there a tie break for the third set?

Edit !

A small amount of research reveals that the 3rd set is indeed a tie break set !!

(Not sure that is the case at Wimbledon though?)
