RE: Week 35 - US Open (men's main draw ex-AM) - hard

Objectively it is hard to see Dan winning this match as logically you have to assume that Robredo will be much more consistent and mentally tough than either Nishikori or Tomic. However there seems to be a real X factor about Dan this week and crucially he isn't overwhelmed by what he has done these last few weeks so maybe, just maybe we are in for a special performance. It could also be down to earth with a bump but lets try and stay optimistic.

Down an early break but Dan hits straight back

*1-2

Tactically, Tommy seems to have decided to hit a lot of high, top-spin balls onto Dan's backhand and it's true that as Dan's relatively short and with a one -handed BH, it's a difficult shot, taking that ball up at shoulder height.

But Dan looks relaxed, excited, well up for the match . . .

A couple of excellent games - both men - Dan creating some BPs with real aggressive play but Tommy raising his game just when he needs to . .

Dan at 0-30 but finds three aces to force a tie break.

Feel this is huge for Dan

Poor last 2 points, Robredo was really tight there and Dan gifted him the points.

Well, I know he lost it but I thought that was the best set of tennis Dan has played this week - the stats will look better on other matches but Tommy was absolutely a different class from Nishi or Tomic - and Dan STILL practically pipped it and was toe for toe all the way through . . . really top tennis . .

Commentators suggesting that Robredo dominated the set and always looked like winning it

I may be biased but I honestly haven't a clue what they're talking about, Dan had break points in multiple games and played some belting tennis

They also commented earlier that Dan's ranking will be up at the 120 mark now if he loses tonight. Didn't I read on here the other day he was at 143?? Do they do no research whatsoever?

I think people expect a bigger jump for qualifying and reaching R3 of a Slam, which to be honest I think you should get more points for.
