Looks like he wasn't troubled for too long!

In the main draw:

R1

(5) Ashley HEWITT WR 416 v Simon STEVENS (BEL) (WC) WR 2029
(4) Dan SMETHURST WR 400 v Kim MOELLERS (GER) (Q) WR 1969

Well, for the first round of a 15k, that shouldn't be TOO tricky . . . .

Well, looking at Ash's second round too - it ought to be the easiest 3 points in Futures he'll ever earn.....hopefully allowing him to focus on the big matches to follow and therefore ensuring that he doesn't lose a match in such bizarre fashion again (as per last week).

In fact of the 32 players in the MD, 18 are ranked 1000 or lower.........which is quite extraordinarily weak for a $15k in Europe

(4) Dan SMETHURST WR 400 def. Kim MOELLERS (GER) (Q) WR 1969 6-0 6-0

In the next round he plays (if rankings prove right) Dimitar Grabul (MKA) who, at age 31, is at his CH of WR 553 (some people are late bloomers!)

And, yes, Ash has a walk in the park for a 15k and hopefully the two Brits will see each other in the QF . . .

Probably due to there being six 15K events in Europe this week as well as nine 10K events

Which seriously begs the question as to why Dan Cox is playing yet another UK 10k !

I agree. I'd like to think it's a brief warm-up "at home" before a renewed go at making an impression on the Challenger circuit. Dan is on the entry list for a good selection of Challengers over the next few weeks (although that doesn't mean he intends to travel out to any of them), so stepping-up could be his next move......or not!

Glad to hear he's also down for the Challengers.

I'd only looked at the weeks' entries on this site and saw him listed at Sheffield and Roehampton etc. etc. and thought - what the heck ?

NB Ashley's won the first set 6-4 and is 1*-0 up in the second.

Also notice that despite their success last week, Ash and Dan aren't down for the doubles this week.

I'm guessing like Ed did earlier in the year trying to build up his finances before going the challenger route...
