Likely to be a difficult semi though. Probable opponent will be Marcel Ilhan, top seed and WC with a ranking of 180 (CH 87 in 2011)

Sounds like a bit of a ringer to me.

Just what I was thinking. Probably spending a week or 2 with his family at one of the beach resorts in Antalya anyway.....last minute WC.

This is the 7th Turkish futures event Ilhan has played this year.

Or maybe he's the Turkish equivalent of Dan Evans of old......loves his country, doesn't want to leave

The only surprise about Ilhan's QF was that it took him 3 sets to win it!

SF: (4) Richard Gabb WR 549 v (1/WC) Marsel Ilhan (TUR) WR 180 (CH 87 in 2011)

Ilhan has now won 23 matches in a row in Turkish Futures but only won a single game against Kavcic in USO qualifying last week.

Early days but Mr. Gabb seems to be giving Mr. Ilhan a run for his money at least . . . 4-3*

and, oh flip, while writing that, the man from Turkey broke . . . 5*-3 . . .

Richard was actually a double break up at *3-0, so it got away from him from that point.

Glad to see he's steadied the ship at 2-2 in set 2.

Marsel was 5-2 up but Richard's got it back to 5-4*.

However, having conceded 14 or so BP opportunities, serving's not always a benefit . . .
