9 games in a row. 5/5 BPs converted. 8/8 BPs against saved. Wow!
Italian opponent with a ranking of ~1200 clearly no "rabbit" player, so this is impressive. A year ago, a few of us were suggesting that Richard had a very pleasant looking game, very steady, but with no real venom......and was never a player who could destroy an opponent.
Well today (and second and third sets yesterday), he's very much destroyed the opposition. Well done him!
Well, not sure how to rank the opponent - he's only got 4 points and I never think that anything under 10 really counts (wildcards, fluke, the odd good game, whatever, can give anyone a few points) - BUT he is very young (18) and just starting the tour so actually he could be better than his ranking suggests (there you go - I can argue it either way).
However, what is certainly true is that Richard won it in style and that's great. (He's also got a few points coming off over the next few weeks and could do with a few here).
Vovk hit a career high 414 just over a year ago but had a dire last few months of 2012. He didn't play in February, March or April, but seems to back in better form now, unfortunately, having reached 3 Futures semis (winning 1 of them) since the start of May.
