Great to see Laura back and winning. I wasn't bothered about the standard of tennis, just that she got the win and didn't make the injury any worse. By the sounds of it, we actually got a decent performance as well after a "rusty" start.
I thought it was a solid 1st set from Laura, certainly not her best but I've also seen her play alot worse. To be fair better than I expected especially on the back hand side. Serve though was average at best.
Last couple of games were spectacular though and will augur well for her next match.
Her wrist isn't 100% but she got through, hopefully it will stay in one piece and not be damaged anymore.
If the US Open is following its normal schedule in the first week ( I realise it finishes a day later ) then the men's R1 completes on Wednesday, but the women's today.
And with lights generaly available ( on many if not all courts ) I would think weather allowing that Hev should play today.
Sky Sports showed Laura practising earlier this morning with Jamie Hampton on Arthur Ashe stadium - though she will probably be on one of the televised outside courts tomorrow.
The size of Heather's task today shown in the betting, you can get more than 8/1 on her on Betfair - odds normally reserved for a match against a top 10 opponent.
Having said that Halep didn't take her improved form to Wimby this year due to fatigue so not impossible.
I didn't see any fatigue on the weekend when she took Kvitova apart. It's a 2 horse race, it's sport, and Hev is a great fighter, so as you say anything is possible. But I haven't seen anything as outstanding as the way Simona played for a long time (Serena apart). It was a joy!
