Dom would appear to have the edge there. I guess that means they'll be playing in the doubles together. John Peers will be the opponent of whoever wins the encounter - if he gets past the q3, Thiemo de Bakker (WR 98)...! I imagine, though, that he'll be in the doubles with Jamie M.

if andy's travelling to sloane, why dosnt he enter qualifying where there is a male event at the same tournament, would be a good way to keep playing and getting some money

Doubt he's worried about the money, huntley, though I dare say a couple more matches on US hard courts wouldn't go amiss...

I think he should keep his mind on the job in hand and do what he's being paid to do, the best he can, learn a lot and network.
After that, he can go back to tournaments if he wishes. But this might be his moment to lay down the foundations of a whole new career path (either now or in the future) . . .

Fitzy tweeted me earlier to say that he is back in charge this week. Regular coach not there so he is on full coaching duties. And if I know Fitzy, he will take that responsibility very seriously. To risk the possibility of taking 4 or 5 hours out of his day (warm-uo, prep, a poss long 3 setter and then recovery) when he is there as coach to somebody else, would simply not be in his nature.
And we also don't know what his state of health is right now. I really hope that before too long we will see him back on court and going back up the rankings. Coaching maybe be a long term option for him and this stretch will provide fabulous experience in that regard, but he is still too young to give up on a playing career for which he has already sacrificed so much in order to achieve.

I think Sloane might just feel that her hitting partner wasn't doing his job properly if he was playing a tournament in North Carlolina while she was playing in Connecticut.

Oh. OK. I didn't even check the locations of the two tournaments before typing my response above. I have no doubt that your reasoning is 100% more logical than mine. But in case you didn't see my comment, Fitzy is not just hitting partner this week, but is also back in the hot seat as coach.

Our posts crossed so I only read yours after submitting my own. That would make it even more unlikely that he would play, even if it had been a combined event. The demands on a coach are obviously much greater than a hitting partner.

Seems I may have misconstrued the "Andy" reference, but if that's the case, why introduce it on a thread dedicated (in the first instance) to a first-round qualy encounter between two totally different players?

I think that huntley93 assumed that this was a combined event and that Sloane Stephens was playing here and thus thought that Fitzy could have entered qualifying.
