Just to note (if it hasn't already been noted - don't have time to read through thread in full) that there's also a GB player in the pre-qualifying for the mixed doubles: Matthew Brooklyn, playing with Canadian Stephanie Wetmore. Presumably they're both at university somewhere in the US. OOP (part of New Haven generally): assets.usta.com/assets/664/15/OPWednesday2.PDF
Edited: Aha. US Open page on the playoffs indicates that he is now assistant coach at Georgetown University. http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/2013-08-12/201308121376319332595.html. Pretty hard to see beyond the two Wittens and Melichar/Battistone, I'd have to say, but you never know!

Bachinger is a clay court specialist, before this week he hadn't played on hard since March. He played Wimbledon and both Nottinghams but didn't win a match.
Looks like Evo remembered to pack his Challenger form when he travelled to NYC
This is only the first time since 2007 (Bloomers and Baker) that two GB men have made QR2 at the USO and the first time since 2009 (when all 4 were women) that 4 Brits in total have made QR2. The last time more than 4 did it was way back in 2000, when 7 Brits managed it.
However, at least one of them needs to win their QR2 match to avoid this being the first time for 11 years that we don't get at least one into the FQR. I hope more than one of them manages it, obviously!
Dan plays 18th Q seed Reynolds or Cipolla next - they are 5-5 in the 1st set.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Looks like Evo has continued in the same vein of form, must now have a great chance to qualify.
Looks like he will be playing Cipolla next, the Italian is a double break up in the third set against Reynolds. That would be a very winnable match. However he would likely play Kavcic in the final round and that would be a very different prospect. Kavcic is a fine player and he has just destroyed Ilhan 0 and 1.
Surely though if Evo can nearly beat Pospisil, he would have chances against Kavcic even if the Slovakian is bang in form.
Don't get me wrong, an on form Evo certainly can beat Kavcic but it would be a very tough match.

Mr Evans is scheduled to be on a televised court (fifth and last on Court 11, with an 11:00 am start) as is Ms Murray (also fifth/last Court 17); Mr Ward is 2nd on Court 8 after Karlovic/Bagnis; Ms Baltacha is 1st on Court 6.
For sake of completeness, Mr Brooklyn and Ms Whetmore will also be playing the QFs of the national playoffs for the mixed doubles. And, showing what my predictions are worth, the conquerors of the Wittens and Melichar/Battistone will be playing each other in another QF. assets.usta.com/assets/664/15/OPThursday2.PDF
