Brilliant result Dan! So happy! Especially as the 2 other brits faltered in 3 tough sets. Glad to see one make up for it! Allez Dan! Hoping for a decent MD performance! :D
On a more serious note it was really important that he won this and not just for a shot in the main draw and the the 19 points plus substantial prize money that it will gain him. Had he lost then fairly or otherwise there could easily have been unfortunate inferences drawn from losing in back to back finals and then losing in the final round of qualifying here, especially after his disappointing result at Wimbledon qualifying. Added to that his recent form meant he had a lot eyes on him, or at least the live scoreboard, and I think most people expected him to win. It was probably the biggest the match of his career and we shouldn't underestimate the pressure he was under to get this result. After seemingly making the mess of the first set from such an advantageous position he did very well to come back so strong.
Yes, I think that's a very fair assessment. If he'd lost again having had match points, that could have had a bad effect too.
Like I said yesterday, about as good a FQR draw as he could have wished for, yet you could probably say the same for AMM and the first two sets were as close as their recent records, similar rankings and identical career highs might have suggested. It sounds like the way he played the 3rd set was really impressive.

Obviously a very tough draw but I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing. We have seen time and time again that Dan thrives on the big occasion and playing against better players. The way he has played the last few weeks he should go into this match in a great frame of mind. Sure he is a huge underdog but at his best he could certainly be competitive and I don't think a win is totally out of the question
