That's 2 disappointments close together. Hope Dan can put the smiles back on our faces later (or in the morning for those of us who can't stay awake)

Was always going to be a difficult match-up, and he made it a very competitive match. What's the LL situation? Is it the same as for the women?

Was always going to be a tough match but gutted for James to come so close and not make it. At 3-1* in the third I thought he was going to do it.

Leon Smith got quite a lot of criticism on this forum when he seemed to effectively belatedly drop Jamie and turned to Evo at the Davis Cup. Quite a lot of talk about wasting Jamie's time etc.

I argued strongly at the time that it should all be about the win and it appeared to me a tough pragmatic choice, and that if he thought it gave most chance of the win then it was right.

The man impresses me a lot.

Really thought James was going to win that with the early break, but not to be - still a few decent weeks in the US

Pretty sure that it is a random draw of the 16 FQR losers. There is already one LL spot as Fish has withdrawn.

Real shame for Ward. As far as the LL rule goes I believe that the four highest ranking FQR losers get put into a draw for the spot although I may be wrong.

Bah ! Looks like a match that on another day might have gone to James, but not to be today. A competitive effort.

It's a random draw of the four highest-ranked FQR losers (there can be more in the random draw if there are already a few LL places in the draw) then by ranking order thereafter.

A pity about this result, but Devvarman was always the favourite to win and James did well to get the the FQR in the first place before pushing the Indian closer than most neutrals would have expected.
