Leon Smith strikes me as that rare thing in the upper echelons of british tennis at the moment - someone that commands and gives out respect in equal measure. His conduct and decision making so far as DC captain has been bang on. Nobody likes being left out of teams but you don't get the impression that he makes enemies of players he leaves out like certain other recent useless captains - probably explains to them in a rational manner why he's not picked them, kept them informed and left the door open for the future rather than insulting them in the press. We need more like him. Gets on with business and leaves the talking and posturing to the press and the doubters.
He's also passionate about it, without being over the top, always been impressed when I've talked to him and watched his actions courtside. The job he is currently doing with Evo really is out of the top drawer. I don't think the media gave him much hope when he was appointed or thought it was the right decision so are begrudging in their praise for him.
I totally agree with all the positive comments about Leon Smith, by the way - he's exactly the type of character the Brits below Andy need at this point in time (and quite possibly at any point in time, for that matter!)
