Given 4 WCs and 8 qualifiers you'd have thought at least ONE of our guys would have got an easier draw.

True, but if you have two unseeded players in the draw, there's about a 1 in 10 chance that both draw seeds in R1 (8/24 x 7/23), which isn't that low a probability.

Yes, yes, but isn't that a 9 in 10 chance that both DON'T draw seeds i.e. a 90% chance that at least one of them should get an easier draw ?  confuse Said that way round, it still seems to me that we got short-changed . . . smilesmile

PS my little sister used to say 'but who cares if you get a black or a white ball out the bag ? and if you really do care, why don't you just look before you choose?'

I think it's a question of how high you raise an eyebrow.

Given on average something like that should happen once in every ten timez, it's a sod it, mimor eyebrow raiser, but 'appens.

Robert gets a double dose, so to speak, of the seventh seed in the singles!

R1:  Robert Carter & James Ireland UNR vs Nizar Belmati & Younes Rachidi (MAR/MAR) UNR

Sorry, I should have expressed that more clearly. What I meant was yes, it is unlucky (as CD says) but given the number of Futures Brits play in each year, a 1 in 10 chance means something like this should happen somewhere every week or two, so as bad luck of the draw goes, then (as indiana says), it's not a huge shock in the bigger scheme of things.

You're absolutely right, Steven, I wasn't really getting bent out of shape over it, c'est la vie and all that . . .

anyway, now young Robert should do us all a favour and take out Mr. Rachidi and we can all smile. :) (I've a lot less hope for James but who knows . . . )

Practically more breaks than holds in this set.

BUT Robert now serving for the match . . . 5*-4

Double BUT : in line with the rest of the set, Carter wins the first point and then loses the next four.   5-5

Early days but so far, Robert is performing according to plan.

In three games, Carter has scored 12 points and Rachidi has scored 2 !
