Shame but the Monégasque has been in good form - he'll be a fair bit higher in the rankings next week when his Poland finalist points gets added.
NB Just for general interest, he was the bloke written up at the start of the year for having played (and won) the longest tie-break ever recorded (70 points)
There's an article (in Polish) about the SFs here with some very high quality pics (including Kyle) at http://bit.ly/1dhv1Gk
I haven't got time to translate all the stuff about Kyle, whom the reporter describes as "often said to be the future of British tennis and the next Andy Murray" but it boils down to:
- it was a good, close match for most of the 1st set, if not exactly top 100 quality (though why would it be)
- Kyle's forehand can be extremely good but his backhand needs a lot of work
- Balleret was fit for a 30-year-old and his experience showed at some crucial points
Balleret won a couple of almost identical long rallies towards the end of the 1st set that seemed to leave Kyle deflated and the Brit was making lots of errors early in the 2nd set, though a couple of aces led to a good hold in the 6th game for 2-4*. That seemed to rouse him to play a bit better in the 7th game, but Balleret eventually won it to lead 5-2*, Kyle sat down at the change of ends looking very down and served to stay in the match looking like he didn't have much belief and duly lost the game to go down 3 & 2.
The reporter adds that Kyle still has a lot of work to do, especially on his "bekhend" (that's a new Polish word to me LOL) but shows good mental toughness and stamina for one so young. Quite interesting that the reporter writes this despite having described him as seeming to lose belief at a couple of points.
How accurate all this is, I don't know but those who have seen Kyle play won't be too surprised at seeing his forehand being described as much better than his backhand at this point in his career!

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Shame about today - scoreline and 2 breaks against per set (versus no breaks won) appears to suggest he was soundly beaten on the day. Would be more surprising if an 18 year old DIDN'T run out of gas following a long run of matches played and won. Similar thing happened to Kyle in a Florida Futures where he was thrashed by Liam out of nowhere after a long run of wins.
Still another good week and solid points. A few well earned days off now.
