Having reached the Final in Austria in Week 32, Oli missed the sign-in deadline for the Challenger in Meerbusch but has been given a QWC into this 10k.
QR1 : Oli Golding WR 505 v Nathaniel Seyler (FRA) UNR
Mildly surprised not to see any bakery products here given his opponents' previous records, but 2 straight sets wins in a day after he had already played 5 matches in Austria this week can only be a good thing
QR1: (q1/wc) Oli Golding WR 505 beat Nathaniel Seyler (FRA) UNR by 5 & 2
QR2: (q1/wc) Oli Golding WR 505 beat Igor Polonskiy (RUS) UNR by 4 & 2

All that effort to get a WC here and then travel and play qualifying matches. He obviously wanted to do it and must have had some idea what was involved. So to then "simply" retire fatigued would be strange...

I do hope it's nothing serious.
Probably one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time but then finding out that the two matches he played yesterday took more out of him than he thought. That being said 4 sets in a day shouldn't really be too much for a guy of Oli's age and while he did play 5 matches last week he had just had a few weeks off so should have been starting the week pretty fresh. It raises concerns over his fitness levels if he has retired simply through fatigue.
It seems to me more than possible that he didn't retire just due to fatigue but because all the matches and travel led to some kind of injury that it wasn't worth playing through but that hopefully isn't too serious. Anyway, not worth speculating too much - Oli being Oli, he'll probably make it clear before long.

Is there definitely no LL spot available? Just in case he sacked this match off to take that...
If there is a lucky loser spot he would only have a one in eight chance of getting it. Unlike ATP's and challengers it is random draw in futures for any LL spots.

Surely he wouldn't even be in the lucky dip draw for an LL place having retired from his match?

You would think that this would be the case but it isn't.
