RE: Week 32 - Serbia F8 ($10,000) - Novi Sad (Clay)

Good win for Matt. I have been pretty impressed when ever I have seen him play and he frequently pushes players who are ranked much higher but rarely gets the win. Hopefully he can back this up.

With 2 wins out of 2 against Lazov, Matt must be beginning to wish the Bulgarian could be the first seed he comes up against every week

Sakharov was ranked as high as 314 just 11 months ago, so can't be having a great year but could be very tough to beat if he is having a good week.

For anyone who reads French, Sakharov's website and blog is good reading - very detailed, quite philosophical, good pictures . ..

glebsakharov.com/

He tried to up the tempo last summer, employed Anthony Dupuis as his trainer, went to the US, tried out Challengers. And basically he ran out of money, didn't win enough matches, hardly any points, got depressed (ye olde story).
Took a little time out, came back and then immediately had a major ankle injury.

Anyway, since spring, he's back now and things are going better (although still having pretty major money issues).

He's not overly impressed with the Novi Sad tournament either. Supposedly he had to wait way over an hour for his opponent to arrive because a friend has told the player he wasn't playing that day. Fifteen late minute rule ? No, the referee was not overly concerned with the fifteen minute late rule . . .

And Matt wins the third 6-2 !!!!!!!

(and, Indiana, he's another 1990 !)

Well done, all the British lads today

That equals Matt's best result for the last 12 months.

And nice to see the LTA writing out bonus cheques for new names . . .

This is only the second time that Matt has reached a futures SF, the other was Roehampton last September where he lost a tight 3 set match to Josh Milton.

Good race to break into Steven's top 25 table - Bloomers holds the last spot, but Lewis, JWH, Broady and now Shorty could sneak in within the next few weeks with one decent result.

 Yep, absolutely.

Richard has 3 points coming off in ten days time.

AND Tom Burn loses his big 10 pointer at the start of September so he'll be back down to 24 points.

All very close  . . .
