RE: Week 32 - Great Britain F16 ($15,000) - Chiswick (Hard)

JWH has the early break in the final set

Dave seems to break Boy only to get pegged back again.

JWH now all square with Dan 3-3

Dave calmly holds serve at 4-5 and 5-6 down.

Tie-break

Unlucky Ricey, but Boy lives to fight another day.

Brave and valiant effort from Adam there but he goes down 6-4 in the 3rd to Westerhof, who will now play Rice in the QF.

Het spijt me to my Dutch friends out there, but I can only see one winner of that one and it sure ain't the Nş1 seed !!

Bob hangs head in shame for jinxing Ricey cry

Begs forgiveness from his Dutch friends.

And experience shows.

Well done to Dan.

And well done to Josh too - after beating Ed yesterday and coming within a point of beating Dan, his game is getting better and better.

Total respect for Dan C and what he has done over the last few weeks, but I really would have liked to see JWH win that one.

His time will come, no doubt.

Yes, I was quietly rooting for the youngster too (you couldn't call him the littl'un - he must be a good head taller than Dan C.)

But he's only 19, as you say, his time'll come and it's all looking good. Really exciting prospect. I get the feeling he's enjoying his doubles too - won the title last week and in the semis today.

Calling Liam: if you want to take out the frenchman, serving 6 DF in 3 games is maybe not the best way to go about it . . . but still 3-3 . . .

Josh G wins the first set 6-4

(good because otherwise we might suddenly be Joshless)

Liam had a set point as well, but a break up in the second.

Oh Josh, why couldn't you win matches like this earlier in the year, before you retired, instead of taking points away from Brits who might make long-term use of them He'd better beat Westerhof now to make up for it! wink

Still, maybe it will give us a bigger short-term 'number of players in the top 500' peak.

Two down one to go - but sadly, I need a knight in shining armour to ride in and take that final spot.  It's not going to happen this week.

SF: (8) Dan Cox WR 379 v (2) Jules Marie (FRA) WR 265 (CH 262 last week)

Dan beat Marie 4 & 2 in R2 on his way to the London-Cumberland Final this week last year (so could do with doing it again to maintain his ranking position on Monday week!)

That is actually a very sad tweet. The tragedy of Josh's career is not that he didn't make the most of it but that all too often he didn't play matches on his terms and to his own strengths.
