Interesting debate. I'm not sure which way to side, but there is an obvious strategy from the LTA to boost the GB rankings with the top up system and incentive to go and play and earn. This may be part of the reason for the upturn in the rankings.
Not so many foreigners are coming across now. Not sur if this is due to costs or the lack of foreign talent, but the depth of 10k's doesn't seem to be as strong internationally. It may be that the higher ranked players are incentivised to qualify in challengers.
The depth is good for GB, but has the standard increased or has the international depth dropped?
I wonder if the US college system has anything to do with the lack of depth with players disappearing for 3-4 years, before making a big impact(Corrie etc)
It will also be interesting to see how the LTA schedule their tournaments next year. Will they try and push the rankings higher by putting more 15k and 25k tournaments in place of all the 10ks?
Such a shame that Adam TB didn't quite clinch that upset in the first round and take out the pesky dutchman. . . . hashtag: whatcouldhavebeen . . .
Well yes, but having seen both play quite a couple of times I would suggest that Adam probably wasn't as close to winning as the scoreline in that match suggested.
