Sounds like it was a great performance from Dan, wish I had stayed up. How was Dan serving? The stats say 63% of points behind his second serve and this is a big improvement. Just 3 DFs will have helped.
Serve was better although still room for improvement. The 3 doubles faults all came in the first game of the second set, and all came when the score was duece (Dan saved all the break points).
To those of you waking up tomorrow morning and reading the comments here, you are missing an absolute treat !!
5-0* Evo
That's me! (But a 2.30 am start was just TOO late - couldn't to it).
But thanks to everyone for the posts - great to read them back through at a leisurely pace, I didn't even know the result - but found the start one first and read through in order, getting more and more happy.
(and thanks to Dan, too, for winning of course - and seemingly winning in such style).
thanks for the updates last night. It seems to me (and please correct me if I'm wrong I haven't been following very closely) that Dan has finally worked out how to win when he's playing at less than his best and the world isn't watching. I know it's a little early to declare his troubles as being over but this certainly seems to be a large step in the right direction, not least because he should be able to play the slightly bigger tournaments more regularly and he has always struck me as a player who needs the crowd to motivate him so playing futures is never going to be fun.

If I understand correctly, Dan is only a "maybe" to make the cut for the US open qualies. It would be a real shame if he doesn't make it, given his form. When will we have the definitive list?
If he doesn't make it, perhaps he could qualify for Winston-Salem instead. His form is good enough for him to win thru qualies, and most of the players will have their minds focussed on the following week. Could be a good opportunity to win two or three rounds at a main tour event.
Does anyone know what Dan's plans are after the hubbub of the DC has died down? There is a juicy series of $100k challengers in California that could suit him very nicely if he doesn't fancy playing indoors in Europe.
Another big win and while not as fluent as yesterday he played some great stuff at times. He is playing with incredible intensity and a lot of emotion on court, the look in his eyes during that first set tie-break was scary, and it is really pushing the standard of his tennis to new heights. Best of all he is achieving all this while there are still obvious improvements that can be made. If he can find a bit more consistency on serve and cut down on the double faults while retaining everything else he has going to be a formidable opponent.
Up to British No2, although only for a week unless he wins tomorrow.

SF: (SE) Dan Evans WR 194 beat (Q) Farrukh Dustov (UZB) WR 213 (CH 173 in 2007) by 7-6(2) 6-3
FI: (SE) Dan Evans WR 194 v Bradley Klahn (USA) WR 147 (= CH)
Dan said in his interview that he had not played Klahn before. In fact he has played him twice, but they only met in juniors, way back in 2007 and 2008.
In 2007, Dan beat him 2 & 4 in R1 of USO juniors - he went on to beat Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets in R2 and eventually reached the QFs - there is local (Birmingham) news article from back then at http://bit.ly/13PdMsg
Klahn got his revenge the following year, winning 4 & 0 in the QFs of the pre-Aus Open event in Nottinghill.
A few "first since" stats:
- Dan is the first Brit to reach the final here since Andy won the title in 2005 - he is the first Brit to reach Challenger singles finals in successive weeks since Boggo in April 2007 (in California & Cardiff!) - this is the first time since 2006 (4 x Boggo & Josh Goodall) that Brits have reached 5 Challenger singles finals in the same year - also the earliest week of the year the 5th has been reached since 2000 (5th final in the corresponding week to this one)
It should perhaps be remembered before we get carried away that mid-July to mid-August often tends to be the most successful part of the year for the British men in Challengers and Futures but things are definitely starting to look up
