RE: Week 32 - Challenger ($100,000) - Aptos, CA, USA (Hard)

And saves them all and a few more tight points with some pretty dominant serving. Evo 5-0

Pretty routine first set from Dan. Not at last weeks really high level of play but more than enough against Krueger.

First set in the bag 6-1. Easy pickings for Evo, particularly on current form. Kreuger struggling to get his returns anywhere near in, and Dan picking them off on the second ball anyway. Hopefully the second set will follow in such a business like manner.

Though Kreuger's code violation was a bit harsh, poor kids getting smashed.

Dan making hard work of this but still firmly in control.. Kreuger on the receiving end of Evo's wrath now.. 'you need to towel after a double fault.. f*** me! you must be tired'

And Evo seals the win 6-1 6-2. Far from a vintage performance from Dan but he's got way too much for Kreuger at this early stage in his career.

Dan totally dominated the match with his forehand. Serving wasn't great and will need to get better. Next match against Wang is on Thursday.

Krueger Brit-bashed again (though he won 3x as many games as he did against Wardy in Lexington) ...

L32: Dan Evans WR 194 v (WC) Mitchell Krueger (USA) WR 445 by 1 & 2

L16: Dan Evans WR 194 v (8) Jimmy Wang (TPE) WR 139 (CH 85 in 2006)

So, the player who lost to Pospisil in the Vancouver Final will take on the player who lost to Pospisil in the Vancouver SFs, who today double-bagelled the player who lost to Pospisil in the Vancouver QFs ... while Pospisil himself took out Isner in Montréal today!

I'm pleased he has the win but  slightly concerned that we're again talking about poor serving. I know last night's opposition was not up to much, but 7 DFs in just 8 service games isn't good, and 1st serve at 55% is very average. Still, he has all day today to practise it.  Does Dan spend much time with a coach?

Let's hope Dan can get a couple more wins this week.

Steve

No letdown from last week, very impressive from Evo. Wang will be tough though.

Pleased to see Dan's result - that nicely covers the 8 points he's got coming off this week - always a downer to come straight into a new Top-200 or whatever and then get kicked out straight away the week after (although he might just have snuck in even with 8 points less).

Of course, he's got his 'biggie' points coming off the week after (27) so a bit of margin would be nice.

Don't really know Jimmy Wang - but Dan's obviously on form . . .

Looks a very comfortable win for Dan.

Re his points - another SF would be great because that would exactly cover the 8+27 due to come off. One match at a time though.

(In brackets but huge well done to the irishman James McGee who qualified and then beat Harrison, the number 4 seed, 7-5 in the third set)
