american sports term - perform well in the most important moments in a match - win the points that make most difference like BP or save them etc
though i guess susie dent would frown at it
Ah, thank you, TT . Never, ever, come across the term before, so I assumed it was a bad typo (not uncommon on here). Like most things American, particularly that gibberish they like to call "English", I find it totally illogical, not to mention incomprehensible, now that its meaning's been explained. Regard me as this board's Susie Dent. At least I know who she is.

1-6 - not great to say the least but 1-6 is a bit harsh on Laura as there were a few close games that Kvitova won. Kvitova is known for winning the first set easily and then lapsing so Laura still in this.
A real battle out there at the moment, a lot of tight games, but Laura now facing Petra's serve at 2-5*.
It can be a little hard for us sometimes to think rationally about Laura, she's had such fantastic results in the last year or so that some of us (certainly myself included) find it hard to keep our expectations in check. After all, Laura is 32 in the world, and Kvitova is a Slam winner and world number 7.
