RE: Week 31 - ITF ($100K) - Vancouver, Canada - Hard

Well JoKo hasn't let it upset her (and I think it was a genuine MTO for Nara anyway) - she is already *2-0 up in the 2nd

I thought the first six or seven games were really poor. Joko hardly won a point on serve and her forehand was all over the place, but big improvement towards the end of the set.

I agree Jo is not playing great tennis but she seems to be doing enough to win this.

Good of JoKo to race through this set and keep Evo's match to a reasonable time for us UK viewers!

Easy in the end, her opponent made error after error and Joko cut out her errors.

SF: KONTA, Johanna (GBR) 147 beat NARA, Kurumi (JPN) 5 110 (CH=101 in 2010) by 7-6(1) 6-0 biggrin

... Jo is 8-2 in ITF singles finals, but this will be the biggest one of her career so far.

In the 2nd set Jo started to put more and more pressure on Nara, hitting winners or near winners. Nara's consistency broke down under the increased pressure.

So, the 2009 Waterloo winner takes on the 2011 & 2012 Waterloo winner! wink It is JoKo's 1st 100K singles final, Fichman's 2nd. JoKo is 8-2 in ITF singles finals overall, Fichman 8-11.

OOP suggest Joko starts around 1.30pm with Dan following.

8hr time difference suggests 9.30pm start

both unseeded brits take down 3 seeds and end up playing final vs a seeded home player
just get the same big W to finish off now!!!
crowds will be against them natch
Jokos task slightly less hard i think of the two
good week for fans here no matter what though!!!!

Jo impressive but I know her game really causes problems for Nara, and couldn't believe the bookies were making her the underdog.
Fichman has no big weapons but is a wall, so Jo will have to play well to beat her, and of course the crowd will be against her.

Or as Serena's new French coach would have put it (and Serena said it made all the difference):

the crowd will not be AGAINST Joko, they will be FOR Sharon
