L32: (ALT) Alex Ward WR 351 defeated Arnau Brugues (ESP) WR 282 by 4-6 6-4 7-6(3)
Brugues served for the match at 6-5, but couldn't close it out!
This lad's nothing if not a fighter!

L16: (1) Pablo Carreño (ESP) WR 111 (= CH) vs (ALT) Alex Ward WR 351
Great news to come back to. Alex seems to have decided a couple of months ago to turn himself into a Challenger player ... and through perseverance and dogged determination, made it happen
This win may will take him close to (or, with luck, above) his career high next Monday and to GB no. 6.

Things really do seem to be brightening a bit in British tennis. I don't know if my memory is playing tricks, but I seem to remember once Andy moved on upwards from Challengers, we had quite a long spell with nothing between Andy and Futures.
I think Dusseldorf was a big turning point for Alex after he pushed pella so hard and had mp against him and to see pella the make the semis must have given real belief that he could compete at this level

I suppose I forgot about him: but looking up his 2006 activity, he played mostly Futures in the first half of the year and was losing in the first or second round of Challengers the rest of the year. Maybe it was the dearth of Challenger players at the later stages of tournaments I was remembering.

Boggo won 3 challengers in 2006, including 1 in January and 1 in February, spent most of the year the top 150 and didn't play any futures.
In my version of the board, it's the second option in the drop-down menu under "More".
I can't even find "More"! Do you have a different version to me?
I think it's a moderator-only function for some reason. If you (or anyone else for that matter) want one of your own posts deleted, e.g. because it's a duplicate, feel free to edit it to say so and one of the mods will delete it when they see it.

Yes, that was the feeling I got too (not based on a huge big deal but all the same . . . ).
Was it Pella who posted those tweets saying what a huge forehand Alex Ward had, and how he was amazed he'd managed to win ? Or was that someone else ? Because it was just after that as well that it all seemed to click for Alex and I wondered if hearing a top guy rate him highly actually made Alex believe it too . . .
And I don't know if I'm right but I would guess that Alex must be right at the top of the list of LTA top bonus scheme recipients (or maybe Rice?).
Anyway, next match might be a tad tough but it's been a great few months, Alex . .
The quarter-final line-up in the doubles (with this week's rankings):
QF: (1) Jamie Delgado & Frank Moser (GER) CR 182 vs James Cluskey & Fabrice Martin (IRL/FRA) CR 518 QF: David Rice & Sean Thornley CR 383 vs Ariel Behar & Carlos Poch (URU/ESP) CR 533 (*) QF: Arnau Brugues & Iván Navarro (ESP/ESP) CR 961 vs (2) Ken Skupski & Neal Skupski CR 312
(*) Behar & Poch took out the fourth seeds, Cipolla & Motti, in the first round...
