Week 30 - ITF ($25K) - Winnipeg, Canada Hard

Sam holds for 1-0*

Apologies if my scores are a bit erratic ... as Korriban implies, the scoreboard is sticking and then jumping forwards!

RS holds to 30 for 1-1

0-30 on Sam's serve, which then becomes a BP for RS. Saved and Sam holds for 2-1*

Oh ... and it was going so well Not that she's out of it yet, obviously!

Come on Jade, if you want decent points for your efforts, you have to back up these upset R1 wins!

Steven - you have to remember that Jade is at a career high and is not used to playing challengers on a regular basis and the higher standard of tennis involved. The ability is obviously there as she is winning matches. It may be she needs to work on the level of consistency and concentration when playing these higher level matches.

Don't worry, I'm well aware of that, and very impressed with how she has been playing recently and the ambition she is showing by going off to play these 25Ks. I made the comment during the match, thinking there was a good chance she would turn it around (and she wasn't far off in the end) and I'd be surprised if she didn't feel similarly herself. However, it's not as if she upset a seeded player then lost to someone ranked below her - her opponent was ranked slightly higher (and had a significantly higher CH), the match was as close as their rankings suggested it would be and could have gone either way, so she has nothing to reproach herself for.

I imagine she's pretty happy with her recent progress ... yet a little frustrated that she hasn't managed to convert one of the last two weeks' upsets into a QF place. That's how I'd be feeling in the same situation, anyway.

Of course, the way 25K points go, you actually end up with 1 point more for reaching R2 twice than you do for a QF and a R1 loss, so I guess if she was going to win two main draw matches over the two weeks, she did it the most profitable way overall

BP against Sam in the opening game but the scoreboard appears to have frozen at 30-40. Looks like a rain delay. Keeping an eye on the tournament Twitter feed so I'll update once they say that play is getting back underway

Thanks Sally.  Thought that might be the case.

There is an actual Tornado watch in force for the area at the moment ......so that might explain the livescores being a bit "jumpy".wink

Oh wow, I'm impressed they have any scores at all in that case!

BP for Sam but she can't convert. RS has a game point and that's where we're currently stuck scoreboard-wise.

Presumably there has been some play going on as the tournament Twitter feed now says that there is a rain delay. My scoreboard still isn't working though

Sam has just tweeted about the county cup.......so either her match is finished or she is on a long rain delay?
