RE: Week 30 - ITF ($100K) - Astana, Kazakhstan Hard

Possibly a bit of jetlag or fatigue after what might have been a difficult journey. Palkina was in Bastad last week but lost a lot earlier than Lisa did in Woking.

Palkina's not a bad player by any means, certainly better than her ranking. She ground out a tough first set having missed several set points (and Lisa had two break points at 5-6* for a tiebreak) then came through the crucial tight games in the final set which really seemed like they could have gone either way, so credit to her.

Lisa will be disappointed but I agree that's it is great to see her taking the 'gamble' to play this event rather than going to Wrexham. I love this girls game and her attitude, she comes across so brilliantly in her interviews, and I hope she can keep making those small, but important, steps on and off the court over the rest of the year and push up into the top 250.

Looks like Lisa has ran out of steam.......but I still admire her for giving it a go ....and the result could have easily been oh so different...........

I admire the tournament selection too.

But not so much losing the last 6 games in a row from a break up in the final set to a player ranked ~100 places below her. Let's be honest, from that position she should be winning this match.........it's possible the opponent raised her game, but 6 games in a row would suggest either a physical or mental collapse.

Shame

Looking at live scores, it's hard to see the full story but there were quite a few games in that final set which could genuinely have gone the other way.

Another couple of points here or there and it could have been much closer. It looked to me as though Lisa fought right to the end. Possibly the quick turnaround from Woking didn't help towards the end but I'm not so sure. Either way, at least Lisa will have had more rest before her next match next week.
