RE: Week 30 - ITF ($25K) - Wrexham, UK Hard

Agreed Mel was the highest GB ranked player left in at 603

Laura and Hev don't qualify
Tara couldn't play due to an admin error
Joko, Sam, Naomi and Jade already in NA plus Emily
Lisa in bigger tournament in Astana

So the only players missing are Elena, Anne K and Mandy Carreras(who plays out on the clay)

The depth is there, the question is the scheduling with most of the GB players going to the US circuit. Maybe the LTA need to think about pulling the schedule closer to Wimbledon or dropping this to a 10/15K

What do you mean: "Tara couldn't play due to an admin error". Is there something we should know?

I'm sure I saw Tara there today - so maybe she is in.

She's not in the draw. And the LTA website says she's "resting" before Canada.....curious if paulisi knows different

I think it was reported that she had tweeted something about the error? But she's heading to Canada soon anyway

I wouldn't immediately rule out Jess Simpson to make it through, as long as she can keep her double fault count in single figures.

I like Jess, but isn't her opponent a very highly rated junior. So will be very tough.

She seems to have been highly rated for years though, without doing anything outstanding! Not that I'm expecting Jess to win, just adding her to the list of Katy and Lucy who are in with a shot (I'd actually give Jess more of a chance than Lucy, although I don't know anything about Lucy's Spanish opponent.)

Her team entered her for Baku and failed to withdraw in time. Hence she cannot play any ITF events this week.

Indy played well last week though, pushing another talented youngster and eventual titleist Kan to three tight sets. She seems to be finding form and at 17 yo she isnt exactly overhyped just yet!

Jessica Simpson's match seems to be a "women's" match 4 breaks apiece so far in 1st set *5-5

Jess just held serve 6-5*

and Jess wins the 1st set with another break (or should that be hold wink)

7-5

I didn't think the Watts girls were going to play doubles. Good chance for Drew and Hughes.
