Two seeds exited today in a poor day for the Smiths - Emily beaten by Ceire Mullins while Mia lost to Livvy Tomkins. Freya and Jasmine progressed smoothly whilst there was a first ITF win for Jodie Anna Burrage, who helped the under 14s to the World Junior Tennis finals

I was speaking to Richard Irwin today, top bloke, who is currently coaching Jodie and he said the top 3 in her age group were Mikheeva, Axon and Jodie herself.

Katie Swan might have a thing or two to say about that! Thought she was well ahead of Jodie...on rankings at least. smile

Katie has beaten Anastasia a few times, so I'd definitely put her in that bracket.

I was also speaking to Anastasia's dad and can now understand why he wasn't overglowing with praise about her current form, only winning 7-5 in the third.

The player who Anastasia beat (Emma Wilson) was also close to beating second seed Millie Stretton last week. All the seeds who played today progressed

I know Georgie and Ellie are more or less full time there, but just when you mentioned Holly travelling with Rob Smith, I probably put 2 and 2 together and got 5 !

It seems that they've got a great set up there, great coaching, school on site and there's about 15 that live together in one big residence.

Anastasia came through another tough match today against a very good young player from Worcester(same year) Ellie Griffiths who trains at the same place as Donna Vekic and does get an occasional hit with her. High quality match and it does seem we have very strong depth in the 99 year, Ellie is the 5/6 best in that year. Jodie then upset the seventh seed in straight sets.

Jodie has been focussing on tennis europe events I believe and this maybe her first ITF event.

I haven't seen her but a couple of people who have think highly of Ellie-Rose. Jodie plays more TE events than her Brit rivals and is our top ranked girl at 27. Holly Hutchinson (recently on Tour with Rob Smith's group - including Georgina Axon ) upset third seed Jasmine

There's still one non-Brit left - the girl who coasted to success in Edinburgh

QF

(1) Freya Christie v (WC) Jodie Anna Burrage
Holly Hutchinson v (5) Anastasia Mikheeva
Livvy Tomkins v Karola Patricia Bejenaru (ROU)
(6) Emily Arbuthnott v (2) Alannah Griffin

So does that mean Ellie, Holly and Georgie all train at Northwood in North London ?

I believe the Romanian girl trains in Ireland.

Georgie certainly, Ellie-Rose some of the time. Not sure about Holly who was at Halton, but may have moved base to Northwood
