Boys: AEGON Junior International Newcastle - Grade 4 (Week 29)

Quite a strong G4 with Wimbledon partners Julian Cash and Joshua Sapwell as the top seeds, plus Adam Glynn and Jamie Malik also ranked inside 250

Post Kyle/Bambo we're really struggling for top 100 boys juniors. Cash is the highest ranked 1996 and he'd need a good second half of the season to secure a top 100 place at the start of 2014. Any bright/er spots?

I don't know about any others but I watched Cash at Ilkley (beat Hudson in R1) and was very impressed. If he maintains that level of form in juniors I would expect to see him climb the rankings fairly quickly.

Actually Alex Sendegeya is the highest ranked 1996, and he is in the top 100 - though he needs to defend a substantial number of points in doubles, having won a Grade A  last year.

Julian took the path of Tennis Europe under 16 events mainly before ITFs and is moving up steadily.

Peter Ashley was in the top 100 at the start of the year, but like Josh has not played many tournaments so has slid down.

For Pete and Josh it's a question of playing more tournaments if they want to get to the level which winning the Eddie Herr/Orange Bowl under 14 respectively suggested.

Josh makes it 10 consecutive wins to claim back to back titles

 (2) Joshua Sapwell  d. (1) Julian Cash 6-2 6-4

The amount of wins at grade 4 and 5 seems to show Josh is ready to move onto bigger events and get some bit points.

I think he may be the one who ends up being the top 96 in a few months
