Presumably either Mel got in and Lucy got her wild card or Mel and Lucy both got in and Fran (the next player on the qualifying list who is missing from the qualifying draw) got the spare WC.

The section with no ranked players is interesting - Manisha Foster (who will be ranked on Monday) must be the favourite to come through - she plays Anneka Watts in QR1 with the winner playing formerly-ranked Alicia Barnett (back from US college for the summer, if I remember right) or gap-year blogger (albeit only that one tennis-related post) Camille Goodman.

 I was thinking the same thing as well! I only briefly checked but Hollie hasn't appeared to have won a match either for quite a while so it should be quite interesting but best of luck to them both anyway smile

just as an aside, the number of DFs in the Q rounds today is staggering.

Running a quick eye down the current and finished matches, I make it :

Aces : 18
DF : 82

Truly dreadful.

In Nov 2012 Nicole played Sophie and won 6-4, 6-0.

 

A couple of weeks later, Sophie left for the States and joined the Fresno State college, played competitive tennis there for 6 months and came back to beat Nicole in two (close) sets, with the best serving stats of the day.

Sarah Borwell may have a point . . .
