RE: Week 29 - Great Britain F14 ($10,000) - Felixstowe (Grass)

There seems to be an epidemic of late withdrawals this week - the top seed has been replaced in the Challenger in Turkey (sadly, the Brits are in the bottom half), 2 LLs here and 4 in Serbia, and those are just the draws I've looked at today!

Re. some of the questions above:

Lewis injured his ankle last week and Fitzy has been ill, so I assume neither of them recovered in time. I'm not sure why Dan didn't enter. Slabba has had injury problems so maybe didn't expect to be able to play Futures again so soon then found he could - just an uninformed guess!

With new rankings (you lazy lot wink) & H2H details:

L32: Myles Orton WR 1148 v (1) Antoine Benneteau (FRA) WR 406
L32: (WC) Jonny O'Mara WR 1538 v (Q) Alexander Gasson UNR
L32: Jathan Malik WR 1162 v James Ireland WR 1165 - H2H 0-1, 2 & 6, Mersin in May
L32: (7) Richard Gabb WR 625 v Liam Broady WR 866 - H2H 0-1, 2 & 5, Bath 2012

L32: (4/WC) Dan Cox WR 452 v Oliver Hudson WR 1329 - H2H 1-0, 5 & 1, Birkenhead 2012
L32: (Q) Scott Duncan UNR v (Q) Jessy Kalambay (SUI) WR 1970
L32: (Q) Imran Aswat WR 1557 v (LL) Adam Thornton-Brown WR 2004 - H2H 1-0, 3 sets, Manchester 2012
L32: (5) Marcus Willis WR 550 v (WC) Ben Lott UNR

L32: (8) Richard Bloomfield WR 691 v (Q) Joe Salisbury WR 1478
L32: Josh Ward-Hibbert WR 774 v George Coupland WR 910
L32: (Q) Robin Goodman WR 1621 v Stefano Napolitano (ITA) WR 868
L32: (3/WC) Alex Slabinsky WR 519 v (Q) Tom Allen UNR

L32: (6) Tom Farquharson WR 549 v (Q) Luke Johnson UNR
L32: (LL) Alexander Jhun WR 1970 v Marcus Daniell (NZL) WR 696
L32: non-GB match
L32: (2) Neil Pauffley WR 442 v Ronak Manuja (IND) WR 1293

Time for Marcus to have a good week.

Broady keeps getting tough draws. If Bloomers is fit, he could cause damage on grass.

Not expecting much from Neil P again.

I like watching Marcus play just disappointed he has not kicked on from his good start to the year

A QF for Tom, a SF for Slabba and a Final for Marcus (or better in each case) could see them all make it into the top 500, giving us 20 players in that bracket - apart from the fact that they may just push Oli out in the short term.

Oops - edit

Except for the fact that Slabba has 18 to come off NEXT week before these points would go on.  Always forget to check that.

I couldn't find your old post but I did notice this morning that we'd gone up from 15 to 17 of the GB men being in the top 500. You're getting close, Bob, oh so close . . .

I can't remember where I posted that either but I remember being called a little "over ambitious".  (I've been called a lot worse in my time)

Can we finish the season with 20 in the top 500 ?  Definitely maybe.  Even with the retirements of Jamie and Josh, both have got enough points (just about) to still be top 500 at the end of the season. So we are definitely getting close.

I think Slabba is going to find it difficult as he has lots of points to defend. But there are others who could definitely get in there.  I am hopeful that Fitzy can get over his illness as he only needs about 30 points more this year to get there.  I also think that one or two of those off the "top 25" radar could make a late run - JWH being a prime candidate.

Bob - it's on this thread

britishtennis.activeboard.com/t51596696/atp-wta-rankings-of-the-25th-best-brits-over-time/

By the end of the year we should get 18/19 inside top 500 - Tom F, Marcus, Fitzy, Marzi and JWH have the potential with some good youngsters behind.

The aim must be getting more to push on and inside top 400/300 and 200.

Thanks Paulisi.  I had actually found that thread but in this one it mentions 15 in the top 500.  Somewhere else, I have been quoted as saying 20.  I think it may have been in a tournament thread, so very difficult to track down.

Some interesting matches there. Bloomfield v Salisbury should be a feast of serve and volley tennis.

Tom Allen comes back to take the 2nd set off Slabba and into a decider they go.

Slabba was so comfortable for the first set and a half, but the scores suggest that the "younger man" is well on top now. Time and tide .........

Agreed.  Hope he is fully recovered for next week where he is due to play the 15k in Dublin and could well be Nº2 seed !!  Only 1 top 500 player on the entry list, Mr Olivetti, and without looking back, wasn't he beaten by Joe Salisbury a couple of weeks ago ?

Chance for some serious points.

First set for Slabba by 6-4 against Tom Allen. Very few break points in that set and zero against Slabba.
