RE: Week 29 - Serbia F5 ($10,000) - Belgrade (Clay)

Toby explains (very good of him under the circumstances):

"@GBtennis he broke the net at 2-0 me in the third, had to wait 10 minutes for it to get fixed. He regrouped, upped his level I dropped mine"

Well, at least Toby wasn't injured.

Do you read that to be the guy broke the net deliberately i.e. smashed his racket down on it in anger and broke it ? Do you think there was a warning ?

Korriban will be livid - takes the 'tactical' toilet break to a whole new level . . .

I was wondering that too. Turns out it wasn't a complete accident:

"@GBtennis he hit the ball in frustration into the bottom of the net and it snapped. Definitely wasn't an accident as he'd done it before."

Toby has also made the point (good to see a player sticking up for themselves with some relevant stats, and I must admit I hadn't spotted them!) that he has lost to the eventual winner 4 times and numerous times to the runner up and semi- finalist (I assume he means this year so far)

Indeed! Impressive "upping of the ante" in engineering a long break when you are in trouble in a match. Very inventive! Looks like it worked an absolute treat too......8 games lost in a row, 10 minutes break, then 6 games won in a row. Magnificent effort!

Hope Azarenka & Jankovic had their scouts in the crowd to take notes.....much more effective than a toilet break!

Matt dug himself out of trouble countless times in the final set, only to fall at the final hurdle:

L32:  (Q) Grégoire Jacq (FRA) WR 1208 defeated Matt Short WR 792 by 6-1 6-7(3) 6-4 bleh

SF:  Tomislav Jotovski & Nebojsa Peric (MKD/SRB) UNR vs Djordje Djokovic (SRB) & Matt Short UNR

A second successive final beckons for Matt, methinks.  That said the opposition has just dumped out the top seeds by 3 & 2...

There seems to be no stopping Matt Short with one or other of the younger Djokovic siblings as a doubles partner at the moment:

SF:  Djordje Djokovic (SRB) & Matt Short UNR defeated Tomislav Jotovski & Nebojsa Peric (MKD/SRB) UNR by 3 & 3 smile

Perhaps the Croatian third seeds will be the ones to do it:

Final:  Djordje Djokovic (SRB) & Matt Short UNR vs (3) Ivan Sabanov & Matej Sabanov (CRO/CRO) CR 2460

The answer is a resounding "no" & Team GB has its fourth title- of the week, even if it is "only" in the doubles:

Final:  Djordje Djokovic (SRB) & Matt Short UNR defeated (3) Ivan Sabanov & Matej Sabanov (CRO/CRO) CR 2460 by 5 & 3  biggrin
