Well, Ed obviously had his Frosties this morning . . .
Ed : 5*-0 first set
CD. His opponent is serving, so don;t be surprised if Ed "drops his serve now". Flashscores clearly not had any Frosties this morning. Livestream available though.
Yep, my fault - got the * wrong - can't even blame technology (although the score systems have been all over the place this morning - quite funny really).
Ed 6-1 2-2*. He just played one of the best service games you could ever wish for. Immaculate.
If you look at the first set stats, there were just a few BPs involved, so much tighter than the scoreline suggested, with Ed converting his chances. He cannot drop his level and get defensive, and so far in set 2 he's remaining as aggressive as one could wish for. Good mental toughness. Very impressed, win or lose today.
I'm not watching the match (don't have Bet365 account - wondering if I should - and e-tennis stream blows up my computer) so interesting to hear your comments.
I've only seen Ed play live once but I was really impressed - a really 'clean' game of tennis and very business-like in his approach.
Ed goes *3-4 0-30 down playing aggressively, but slightly overpressing/making UEs. Then 4 straight points by STILL being aggressive, not backing off, going forward when possible, and winning the points. Deserves it. Complete contrast to Ricey yesterday.
QF in a Challenger, beat a top 200 player, 15 points (nicely covering the 10 that are coming off) and an extra 1000 pounds from the LTA bonus - brilliant . . .
Excellent service game again. Aggressive. Going forward, 1 UE (attacking), 1 Ignatik superb return winner, but otherwise spot on.
An extremely competent, well constructed, well executed victory. No signs of weakness. No drop in intensity. No luck involved. No relying on the other player required. Best GB performance I've seen since......Andy a week and a half ago.
Well done Ed. No reason he can't reach the SF, whichever opponent prevails. Goffin might be a step too far, but I reckon he could give him a decent game on today's performance! Bravo!
Ed's win today makes him the 3rd Brit to have picked up over 100 ATP points this year after Andy Murray and James Ward (Evo has picked up 96) - he had only won one main draw Challenger singles match before this week, the one against Mertl in Nottingham last year that was his previous best ranking scalp.
Now all we need is Dave to win too, to set up an all-GB QF - he is 4-4* in the 1st.
