I'm not watching the match but the more I hear about that man's antics on the court, the more it annoys me.
He was SO out of order with the comments to Tom F.
People say he can be charming off the court - well, yes, I'm sure - but that's not what life's all about.
There were some Spanish players playing in the south-west of France and they were very hot on their 'code of honour' - shouting against yourself, or the gods in general, was allowed but ANY sign of disrespect for the opponent was a sign of not being a 'man' - practically a hanging offence. And tennis is a small world . .
I think young Klein should be forcibly signed up to one of the Spanish academies (and not one of the nice, 'genteel' ones).
Klein 4-6 1-6. Goffin was playing very poorly in reality, but still won at a canter.
Once again at match point down on his own serve, Klein stopped the game to come to the net and complain loudly about something to the umpire for a good minute or more, asking various things of Goffin who declined to respond. Followed up with 2 smashes of the net with his racquet, then smashing the ball into the baseline partitioning as he returned to complete his service game.
Unpleasant. Unnecessary. Disrespectful. Boorish. Ignorant. I don't want other GB players to be lumped in with this nonsense. He CLEARLY wasn't injured whatsoever by the way, and no I'm not a Doctor and I wasn't there, but I don;t think he deserves any benefit of the doubt anymore.
The Australian tennis federation are probably SO glad to have seen the back of him . . .
And the LTA have played it perfectly as well......no support apart from allowing him to train at the NTC, no WC favours, very arms length, never really expressing an opinion. Wait and see approach.
Meanwhile Dave Rice 4-1* up and cruising. Not sure this will last too long, as the opponent has no backhand at all, and looks a yard slow.
Only turn my back for a moment and he's a break down . . . come on, David, stay focused . . .
*2-5 DOWN second set!!!!! Ridiculous.
From looking at a couple of points, after set 1 Dave appears to have gone down the dreaded "all I need to do is keep the ball in play and this guy will beat himself" route, giving the opponent (now with nothing to lose, of course) the chance to open his shoulders, attack and find his range. Why do so many players fall into this trap?
