Charming at some times and abusive at others is not a good combination in anyone. If that is in fact the case with Mr Klein, one can only hope that someone points out, in a way that he can hear, that abuse, taunting of others etc isn't acceptable.
Good for Mr Cash - nice to see him following on so well from Junior Wimbledon. BiS, however, is definitely in the dog house. Or at least outside wearing a coat, walking the dog. That was bad.

I know. Even by MY standards.
And how embarrassing is it when you feel the need to "explain" your own jokes.
Not sure if it's been picked up elsewhere on this Board, but there's an interesting article on Mr Klein on the Footsoldiers of tennis website ... In his SF, he reminded Tom F how much lower his ranking was.
If they both carry on on their current trajectories in terms of form, he won't be able to say that to Tom for much longer!
In the R2 match up of Josh v Josh, I really hope JWH can pull off a win.
And I mean no disrespect whatsoever to Josh G, but given his pending retirement and the fact that for me JWH is a very exciting prospect, especially on grass, I would love to see him have a good run this week and pick up some decent points.
Yes, same here - now that Josh has announced his retirement, I wish him well but I want the Brits who are still moving up to take the ranking points when they play him

I have just returned from a very enjoyable day at Ilkley.
Very, very impressed with Julian Cash and quite surprised to return home and find out that he is only 16 and that this was his first futures match because he certainly didn't act like it was. Okay he was only playing Oliver Hudson, but it was still an impressive performance and should have been a straight sets win. He has dominated the match and led 6-4, 4-2* and had a point for a double break. Hudson escaped it with the help of the net cord following which Cash got a bit tight and dropped the set 6-4. He was on top at the start of the third but missed a couple of chances to break. Hudson broke to lead 4-2 but cash hit straight back, took the set to a tie break in which the first the first 6 points went against serve but a fantastic return winner gave Cash a 5-3* lead and he served it out. He looks to have a pretty good serve and very good forehand. Very eager to come to net and volleys well, especially on the forehand side. He looks quite strong for his age and looks like someone with a winning mentality, he certainly wasn't there just to make the numbers up and played like he fully expected to win the match. Obviously he is no where near the finished article but he looks like someone who could become a very good player.
As for the other two Brits who got there first points. From what some of the other players were saying Lott v Aswat on grass was never going to be much of a contest and from the bits of it I watched that was a fair assessment. Aswat didn't look like he has much of an idea of how to play on grass. Peniston beating Ireland was also not much of a surprise as the former likes playing on grass and the latter doesn't.
Today was also the first time of have seen Jathan Malik play and although I only saw bits of match I was very impressed. I would expect to see him continue to make steady advances up the rankings.
O'Mara v Pauffley wasn't a great match. Neil really struggled for much of it. Jonny was good in spells but had he played well it would have been a very comfortable win. The key points of the match (1st set tie break and first 4 games of the second, all won by O'Mara) was more about Neil being poor than Jonny doing anything great. back to back doubles faults at *4-5 in a tie break is never helpful.
The 3 and 3 win over Broady flattered Farquharson but he certainly deserved the win. He was just much more consistent than Liam whose forehand while dangerous as ever leaked too many errors. If Liam does dislike playing Tom it is probably down to bad memories of their encounter at Bath, where Liam played terrible and had an epic temper tantrum. I didn't detect any personal animosity between them and the handshake at the end seemed pretty cordial.
New member here - I've been trying to find somewhere like this for a long time, only today while covering the tournament for the Yorkshire Times did I bump into Steven's tweets and consequently this message board.
It was a fantastic day in Ilkley, and I'm covering the championships in order to try and get some better coverage of our young British stars - do check out our website's sports section where you can find the four articles about today's matches. Obviously it's not a detailed report of the games, but we're not a sports specialist paper, and trying to live tweet, watch four games at once and write articles means you often miss a lot of the action! www.yorkshiretimes.co.uk/sports
I'll be back there tomorrow, you can follow the live tweets @MarkBGregory or @TheYorksTimes, or by using the hashtag #greatbritainf13. Obviously Steven will be tweeting the results throughout the day too.
Like the above poster said, O'Mara looked very strong and very happy for Julian Cash, was rooting for him, but he has a tough game now against Dan Cox who was imperious today. Josh looked a little shaky and I'm not sure he'll make the final, let alone regain his title - could well have a tough match against Ward-Hibbert tomorrow.
Glad there's such interest in British tennis here! Will be sticking around.
Joe is a brave man if he wants to play serve and volley. Nicholas Mahut has not won an awful lot with it.
Yes, it is very, very difficult to succeed playing serve and volley but at futures level it is certainly possible if you schedule well. Julian Cash played serve and volley an awful lot against Oliver Hudson yesterday, by the third set I would say he was doing it on a good 60-70% of points. I got the feeling that he didn't originally intend to do it that often but that the tactic worked so well that he used it more and more often.
One of the great joys of going to these summer grass court futures is getting to see some serve and volley tennis.
