The excellent article you posted yesterday (muscle fitness on the academies thread) mentions Tom half way down. It certainly explains why he's made an impact this year but, just how much of one is still a surprise!
Yes, but that made me realise that there was something else I didn't really understand either : the article talked about the coaches and training regime for Tom (wasn't too sure exactly when they were talking about i.e. which date) but Tom is not part of the Aegon team. Added to which, there was a lot of talk about the 6-month programme of Jonny (which definitely sounded very recent), but he's not part of the team either.
Were they Aegon team last year ? Do non=Aegon team members get to use the coaching/training facilities etc. anyway ? But not get travel allowances ? How does it work ?

Yours, confused . . .
Team Aegon are just the group that get the highest level of LTA funding. Other players get various things funded as well as use of the NTC facilities.
SF: (7) Tom Farquharson WR 604 beat Jonny O'Mara WR 1533 by 2 & 1
FINAL: (7) Tom Farquharson WR 604 v (8) Marcus Daniell (NZL) WR 708 (CH 617 in 2010)
With today's win, Tom has moved up to 7th in the GB 2013 race, behind Andy, James, Evo, Ed, Dave and Jamie B, whom he could overtake in the race with a win tomorrow.

Thanks Phil. I'm still a little unclear, not that it matters - as long as those in the know have it sorted!
While googling around though, I've been reading all about Tom's brother, Sandy, who used to be Tom's coach, out in his club near Marseille - in fact, I hadn't realised that Tom was still playing for that club (he didn't in 2012) but has played the league matches this year (and done very well).
Sandy has an interesting tennis career - national level Uk junior, US college, sports science, coached one of the top French women, coached Tom and now working at the 360 academy in the UAE.
Anyway, good luck to Tom tomorrow, it'd be nice to bag his first winner's cup.
I know someone who was at Ilkley earlier and they said that Tom was very good, consistently hitting deep returns and nailing forehand winners for fun. He said that Jonny struggled with his serve right from the start and Tom was pretty ruthless in never letting him get a toe hold in the match. He added that Jonny looked pretty dejected throughout but fought very hard although the *1-2 game in the second set was a killer, a very long game that Jonny put everything into and saved multiple break points before eventually losing. To add insult to injury Tom served 3 aces in the next game.
My associate said he would be pretty shocked if Tom doesn't claim the title tomorrow. Based on what I have seen of Tom this year I would be inclined to agree.
