Tom takes the 1st set 6-2. Another massive fightback from Jonny on the cards?

Tom won 6-2 6-1 according to ITF livescores.

Very impressed with how solid Tom has been recently.

Tom won 6-2 6-1. I think there may have been some injury timeouts as the score froze at least twice.

Tom is just doing superb, a first semi a few months ago followed by a few more straight after, now back to back finals. Would be so chuffed for him to take the title here.

Tom very close to adding to the tally of players in the top 500.

A win in the final would seal his place. Great effort from Tom.

And let's not forget that Jonny has had a great (and hopefully breakthrough) week.

Tom Farquharson on the way up and no hype or tweeting either!

Yes, Tom is now on the verge of the top 500 - he probably needs at least a couple more points, but winning the Final tomorrow or reaching semis (possibly even just QFs) in Felixstowe next week would do it.

Jonny will leap about 500 places on Monday week to just outside the top 1000.

I tipped him to make the breakthrough and be the biggest rankings rise this year on this board at the start of the year along with JWH.

Just curious, wasn't really around much late last year/start of this one - is there something specific that's happened ? i.e. was Tom injured before ? Has he changed trainer? Joined the NTC ?

Or is it just that everything's suddenly come together and clicked ?

It really is an amazing climb since the start of the year - and solid and consistent too, not just one or two amazing/lucky tournaments

As far as I know basically the senior guys not on the Aegon list get nothing unless they are ranked inside the top 250, they can use the NTC facilities but get no help with coaching, travel etc.,. The bonus scheme is in place to help them. There may be special instances when Leon will help out a player but those are likely to be few and far between. Not sure about juniors transitioning into seniors.

The excellent article you posted yesterday (muscle fitness on the academies thread) mentions Tom half way down. It certainly explains why he's made an impact this year but, just how much of one is still a surprise!
