I don't know how it split for Amy and James (i.e. one or two big contributors or lots of small ones), but as I said above, it may be a bit easier to generate interest when a country doesn't have many prospects and the media doesn't unfairly portray them as getting lots of money from their national association.

As far as I know though, Lisa is the highest-ranked Brit to have tried it so far.

amy and james was also 10K euros as oposed to lisas £10K
but thats still a lot and well don to them
looking at the other campaigns theres not much of a good strike rate

a campaign needs good 'marketing' and repetition to stand a chance
wonder if any gb players of past might be able to tweet it a few times - like annie K with her profile now, or bouncy castle (he could finaly do some good! )

Jonny O'Mara is also on the site and is currently requesting monies.

The Irish seem to have more success - Jonny has £10 pledged, Lisa nothing yet.

You can see the breakdown. Amy got a few eur1,000 sponsors from business.

True then when a sponsor comes along in uk and helps a couple of young players he's rediculed and undermined by a jealous tennis community .

The English are notorious for supporting everyone but there own people !

Looks like you are right about this being more suited to the Irish.

Lisa has raised £305 so far, Jonny O'Mara £395.

Jonny has had the publicity in the times today as well.

I agree with the sentiment here.
Tennis is incredibly expensive and just doesn't pay people to turn professional unless they are in the top 100.

This petition is all about making tennis free to young people

Sport in Britain was developed in the days of empire . When sport was considered by the Victorians to be  character building , developing fit healthy leaders that Could build and manage an empire .

Its cheaper for the tax payer to invest in sport because a fitter healthier population will need a smaller healthcare budget , reduction in obesity and thus incidence of heart disease ,stroke & diabetes .

It would not be good for the Pharma sector that I am in but then I guess we might move the focus to prevention rather than cure .

This is a common fallacy. I believe that it is care for the elderly that is by far the greatest drain on the NHS, plus of course the taxpayer pays for their state pensions and all of their various freebies.

Smokers and fat people tend not to get old. cry

20% of the NHS budget goes on people with Type 2 diabetes, a major cause of which is obesity.

Data on spending by category in the NHS seems to be remarkably difficult to find. However, indications are that the three highest categories are, in order: Mental Health (including dementia), Circulatory Problems, and Cancer. All of which are primarily diseases of old people.
